Lupita Nyong'o wins Oscar for supporting actress

LOS ANGELES (AP) — After a whirlwind of awards season attention for Lupita Nyong'o ended with a best supporting actress award at Sunday's Oscars, the "12 Years a Slave" star honored the character that put her on stage.

"Thank you to the academy for this incredible recognition. It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is due to so much pain in someone else's," she said, referring to Patsey, the tortured slave she played in director Steve McQueen's wrenching 19th-century drama.

She credited McQueen for bringing attention to a dark chapter in American history and the victims of slavery.

"I'm certain the dead are standing about you and watching," she said, a sentiment she expanded on backstage.

"I think he's really honored a people that really have been unsung for a really long time in doing this film," she said.

Of New Year resolutions For Fashion Geek

I know, it’s the second month of 2014 and resolutions are usually made in the beginning of the year. I never really make resolutions or write them down anyway just thoughts I tick off in my head as I go along. But I’ve decided I need to make this one, I haven’t really been blogging that much due to some unrelated reasons and other stresses of life. So this time I think I need to put it down on paper as a goal I have for this New Year 2014. Written down resolutions have more meaning than just declaring something and let it fall as it may. And the best part is that now that I will put it down I will have no more excuses as to why I have not achieved it come December 31^st 2014. Now that I will share it with the whole world I will have people that I will be accountable to…not just for encouragement but also for critiques.

So here goes my 2014 resolution for fashion geek….my goal which I must absolutely achieve this year is…drum rolls please….to WRITE 1,000 POSTS by December 31^st 2014! Now it’s out there and I have no control over it. I absolutely must achieve this goal not just for my own piece of mind but also to give me something to thank God for and as a self-esteem booster. Once I achieve it, I will celebrate it and do something really great…like…hhhhm I need to think of the best way to reward myself for achieving this goal. I have 14 POSTS so far so in the meantime I need to keep moving so wish me luck guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

How to wear Crop Pants

Ankle or cropped pants have been on the fashion scene for a while…seen on the cat walks by designers, worn by celebrities so it means they are a fashion must have for every woman who is fashion forward. Crop pants are stylish, simple to put together and versatile. They can be worn as official outfits, casual or for a day out for functions from weddings to graduation parties. Their length makes then seem casual making many women to almost shy away from them but you just need to know how to pull off the look. Crop pants can be worn during the hot season actually they are comfortable enough to be worn all year round in all seasons. During the hot seasons you can wear with lighter fabrics like sheer tops and chiffon blouses, pairing with flat shoes, wedges or heels. During the colder seasons you can pair with a warm cardigan and go for boots or booties because of their cut and length. Want a laid back look; you can opt to wear slouchy pants with pieces of fabrics that are lighter in colors and material. If you are trying to wear the ankle/ crop pants for formal occasions pick darker shades for the office and they can be paired with an official jacket and heels. When the weather is hot add a dash of color for a bright look.

Always consider your height when putting on crop pants. Due to their cut and length tall women are much more comfortable with wearing the crop pants, for the short women you can wear them with high heel so that they give you height to avoid looking stumpy and odd. When it comes to shoes heels are the best options for wearing crop pants…they elongate your legs making you look sexier in them. Flat shoes like sandals, brogues, thong sandals also work well giving you a casual look.

When pairing the crop pants with tops make sure that the length of the blouses is just right to avoid looking out of shape and unbalanced. Sheer materials give you that feminine look and if you want an official look go for jackets that fit and reach at the waist. Pair with sexy heels and you are good to go! The most crucial point when it comes to wearing crop pants is to ensure that they FIT! You don’t want to look like you are trying to pull off someone else’s pants. The Red Carpet has seen a lot of different colored dresses that have been worn by celebrities. While Yellow is a color to be worn during spring or summer and for daytime events, the color can be worn for night events. The color can be paired with other colors like black, red, blue or even white. When it comes to makeup less is better that having bright makeup since yellow is already loud on its own. The yellow dresses on the Red Carpet came in all shapes, designs length and from different designers. The dresses were detailed, simple some were sheer and even laced. Most of the celebrities carried clutch bags and wore heels that complemented the outfits. Kim Kardashian's yellow dress came with a slit. The Best of the Burberry Prorsum Fashion Show

London Fashion Week has seen a lot of great collections on the runway. The designers have never let us down when it comes to giving the audience great shows that leave the attendees in awe, excitement and grateful that they attended one show or the other. This time I’ll feature Christopher Bailey’s collection for Burberry Prorsum collection. It featured a lot of studs, red leather trench coats accessorized with frilly bags. Gold, brown and animal print was seen on the models as they strutted the beautiful, exquisite 2013 Collection. The clothes are easy on the eyes and to wear. The collection is classy, very trendy for the modern lady and also seriously gorgeous. Enjoy the collection.

Crazy for Cobalt Blue Color

Last year 2013 saw collections that were extravagant, crazy, beautiful and in various colors. The Fall Fashion Trend in 2013 was Cobalt Blue which is one color that I have been crazy about. The color was seen on designers’ collection like Valentino , Victoria Beckham, Michael Kors and DKNY. Blue especially Cobalt Blue , and showcased this amazing blue in their 2013 Fall/Winter collections.

Blue symbolizes the Virgin Mary. A pure blue is the color of inspiration, sincerity and spirituality. Blue is often the chosen color by conservative people. Blue is the calming color. That makes it a wonderful color to use in the home, especially for babies. Blue is so soothing that is a good choice for pajamas. Dark blue is the color of truth and moderation. A blue iris means your friendship is very important to me. Wednesday's color is blue. Blue gemstones to wear to feel calm are blue sapphire and blue topaz. Lapis lazuli and azurite are said to heighten psychic power.
