BTS RM Clarifies Hotel Privacy Message, Reassures ARMY That Love Knows No Borders
BTS leader RM has clarified his previous message asking fans to stop gathering outside the group’s hotel, emphasizing that his concerns were not directed at Peru or Latin America specifically. During BTS’ visit to Lima, Peru, the rapper addressed the situation again, expressing gratitude to Peruvian ARMY while calling for mutual respect, understanding, and unity within the fandom.
RM’s clarification followed his earlier Weverse post explaining that crowds gathering outside the group’s hotel had made it difficult for members and staff to rest. He also noted that the noise was disturbing other guests staying at the same hotel. His request was for fans to respect the group’s privacy, particularly during a demanding world tour.
Addressing fans during a concert in Peru, RM began by praising the local audience. “Peruvians! You are truly the best,” he said before explaining the meaning behind his previous post.
RM stressed that the issue was not limited to Peru or Latin America. According to the BTS leader, similar situations had occurred during the group’s activities in Europe and the United States and could happen in Asia as well.
He explained that his message was intended to address a recurring concern rather than single out a particular country or community of fans. By clarifying this point, RM sought to prevent misunderstandings and discourage people from interpreting his request as criticism of Peruvian ARMY.
The singer also acknowledged that many fans already make an effort to respect BTS’ privacy. He recognized that some supporters deliberately avoid approaching the members when they encounter them in public, even choosing not to acknowledge them to give them space.
However, RM drew a distinction between respectful fan behavior and actions that cross personal boundaries. He specifically spoke against flying drones near the group and pointing laser lights at them, stressing that such behavior was unacceptable.
RM noted that BTS member V had previously addressed similar concerns during activities in Europe. This time, RM chose to speak directly about the issue himself, reinforcing the importance of protecting the members’ privacy and well-being.
Beyond addressing privacy concerns, RM delivered a message about unity within the BTS fandom. He questioned why fans should be divided according to nationality or continent when they share a connection through BTS and ARMY.
“When have we ever divided people by nationality or continent?” he asked, emphasizing that fans are equal members of the same community regardless of where they live.
RM encouraged ARMY to ignore comments and discussions that could create unnecessary divisions. Instead, he expressed hope that fans would continue supporting one another and preserving the positive relationship they have built around BTS.
He acknowledged that some people might continue interpreting his words selectively, regardless of his explanation. Nevertheless, he said he would continue believing that the majority of ARMY are wonderful, loving people.
Despite the concerns he raised, RM made it clear that his message did not diminish his appreciation for the Peruvian fans who welcomed BTS.
The singer expressed how deeply moved he had been by the reception in Peru and thanked supporters for their enthusiasm and affection. He ended his remarks with a heartfelt message: “I love you Peru!”
RM’s clarification reinforces an important message for the BTS fandom, supporting artists also means respecting their boundaries. His words were not about separating fans by nationality but encouraging everyone to maintain the trust, consideration, and affection that connect BTS and ARMY around the world.
His full speech
"Peruvians! You are truly the best. Truly, you guys are the best!
I’m going to talk about the post I wrote yesterday. I will speak in Korean.
The post I wrote yesterday wasn’t just about Latin America or Peru. Something similar happened in Europe and in the US too. Actually, this has been happening all along. And it could happen in Asia, too.
And a lot of people are trying to avoid coming to the front of our hotel, and I know very well that you act like you don’t know us even if you see us on the street. But flying drones or pointing lasers at us is actually not okay. In Europe, Taehyung talked about it but this time I’m the one talking.
Everyone, honestly, when have we ever divided people by nationality or continent? When did we ever do that? Under the name of ARMY and under the name of BTS, we are all the exact same people.
I hope we can just ignore the people saying weird things and keep loving each other like we always have. Even though I'm saying this, the people who only see what they want to see will probably keep doing that anyway. But I will keep believing that there are far more wonderful and lovely ARMYs out there. I was so deeply moved in Peru, too! Thank you so much! I love you Peru!
It is sad the there are people who will always misinterpret or blatantly twist his words to suit their own narrative.
