Model Chanel Iman on the Runway

Chanel Iman Robinson, known commonly today as simply Chanel Iman, is the youngest and most successful African-American High Fashion Model of her time. The Victoria’s Secret "Angel” is well-known for having positive energy and endless legs that have walked countless runways around the world.
As a child, Chanel studied fashion magazines, striking poses in front of stuffed animals and throwing dress up parties with her friends. From the earliest moments of her modeling career, she had "it," and it showed. Following her 13th birthday in December 2003, Chanel's aunt brought her to several modeling agencies in the Los Angeles area. The reaction to her talent was immediate, and emphatic. In January 2004, after fielding dozens of offers, Chanel and her family decided to sign with the prestigious Ford Modeling Agency. Just a year and a half after signing, Chanel went on to win third place in Ford's "Supermodel of the World" contest. Although they didn’t know it at the time, the modeling world would never be the same.
"A Model from Day 1" wrote Eric Wilson, featuring Chanel in the New York Times. That was the first of many articles that followed her career foreshadowing pieces in the Los Angeles Times (Image), the New York Post (Page Six) and TIME magazine (where she was featured on the cover of Style and Design).

Adriana Lima for Victoria's Secret Swimwear April 2012

Adriana Francesca Lima was born on June 12, 1981 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. At the tender age of 13, Adriana entered the Ford Supermodel of the World Contest, where her unique beauty, derived from her Native-Brazilian, African-Brazilian, Portuguese, French, and Caribbean heritage, won her second place. Moving to New York at age 16, Adriana joined the Elite Model Management and further pursued her modeling career, landing a campaign for the fashion designer Anna Molinari's clothing line. However, it was her appearance in several Guess? campaigns that gained her the recognition that catapulted her to her status as one of the world's top fashion models. Since then, she has appeared in campaigns for Anna Sui Jeans, Bebe, Gasoline, Mossimo, Victoria's Secret, BCBG, Keds, and XOXO, and has appeared on the covers of magazines such as Vogue and Marie Claire. She consistently appears in the hyped Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows, gaining recognition as one of the Victoria's Secret's Perfect 10. In her spare time, Adriana dedicates her services to help orphans in her native Brazil. She has appeared in the Italian TIM mobile Commercials.

Gaunt model shocks at Milan Fashion Show

Hollow-eyed and gaunt, the skeletal model stalked down the runway at the Gianfranco Ferré fashion show in Milan last night wearing a dress cut in a deep V that revealed her protruding clavicle and flat chest. A flurry of flashbulbs popped as photographers vied to get the best shot and the line of fashion editors sitting front row scribbled furiously on their notepads. If ever there were a case of Emperor's New Clothes at fashion week, it was here.

Did any one of the assembled crowd really think this model - bony cleavage, dark circled eyes - looked good Could they genuinely say that this image was aspirational And ultimately, would the model do what must be her main purpose here: sell these clothes to other women The answer to all of the above should surely be a firm no. But the designers' decision to use such dramatically thin models - and to accentuate their emaciated looks with the use of revealing clothing and dark make-up - suggests the powers that be within the fashion industry think otherwise.

Models falling on the Runway

Being a model is a really classy and lucrative career that most girls dream of doing when the grow up. It is all about glamour, travel, meeting important people around the world. Getting to wear designer clothes and mingle with the greats in fashion and the celebrity world. Modelling is all that and more. Seeing your face plastered on huge billboards and having everyone recognize and acknowledge you as you walk by, all those are the perks of being a model.
As much as there is perfection in most of these runway shows sometimes nature decides otherwise because most times you cannot control circumstances, you either fall and stay on the floor or you get up and bravely walk on as if that was part of your show. It sure is a tough job though the world outside is unforgiving when a model makes a mistake.
Mostly its the evil twin in us that relishes when someone who is seen as perfect has a flaw even if the flaw is not their fault, or maybe it's just the realization that we can never be perfect...well unless you go under the knife which can end up disfiguring you more....anyhow that's a vent for another day.
Back to the topic at hand, modelling is tough and needs a person with a tough skin and ability to see the funny in almost all situations even the embarrassing ones, so kudos to those who can withstand the heat and still come out lady like and with some elegance.
Here are some instances of what to consider before deciding to dream about becoming a model.

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is an annual fashion show sponsored by Victoria's Secret, a brand of lingerie and sleepwear. Victoria's Secret uses the show to promote and market its goods in high-profile settings. The show features some of the world's leading fashion models such as current Victoria's Secret Angels Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes, Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, Chanel Iman, Erin Heatherton, Lily Aldridge, and Lindsay Ellingson.

American network television broadcasts the show during prime time. The first few shows in the 1990s were held in the days preceding Valentine's Day to promote the brand for this holiday. They were not aired on national television. In 1999 and 2000 the show was webcast. Beginning in 2001, the shows were moved ahead of the Christmas holiday season. Also in 2001, the show made its network television broadcast on ABC, though in all subsequent years, it has been broadcast on CBS.

Gisele Bundchen is the highest-earning model in the world.

The Brazilian beauty has topped the list compiled by Forbes.com for the third year running after making an impressive $US25 million ($31 million) from June 2008 to June 2009.

Despite raking in a fortune, Gisele - who married American football star Tom Brady in February - has been hit by the global economic crisis, making $US10 million ($12 million) less than in the previous financial year.

However, the 28-year-old catwalk queen still has lucrative campaigns with Versace, Dior, True Religion jeans and Ebel watches. She also has her own successful shoe line.
